With a history stretching back to ancient times, Gazi is located just north of Syntagma Square, within easy walking distance of most major attractions. Some of our favorite neighborhoods are: Plaka—the well-known and touristy center of Greek tourism; Kolonaki—home to some restaurants and shops as well as quiet residential streets; and Psyrri—located near picturesque Metaxourgeio (literally meaning next neighborhood) which is particularly beautiful during cherry blossom season.
This bohemian neighborhood—known as Athens’ Village—boasts a gritty, funky charm and is packed with restaurants, bars, shops and other cultural attractions. It is also close to many of Athens’ most notable ancient sites. While Psirri tends to be more centrally located than most other neighborhoods, it still offers some peace and quiet thanks to its less chaotic street layout.
